Item Influence of Industry 4.0 Applications on Covid-19 Pandemic in Managing Materials, Human Resources and Completion Time of Construction Projects(Praise Worthy Prize S.r.l., 2024) Amusan, Lekan; Odusola, Mojisola; Aigbavboa, Clinton; Ajao, Ayodele ChristianahThis research was centered on the influence of Industry4.0 in effective management of Covid-19 pandemic on construction sites and materials and resources of construction projects on construction sites. This study aims to increase sensitization about the COVID-19 pandemic's influence on the construction industry. For this research work, 80 questionnaires were administered to selected construction sites in the areas with highest incidence of Covid-19 in South Western Nigeria (Lagos State). The influence, effect, and strategies adopted using Industry4.0 apparatus The structured questionaire designed in Likert scale was distributed to respondents. The collated questionaire was test for validity and reliability and was found to be in good order. Spearman ranking, ANOVA, Mean item scores and relative agreement tools were used to process the data. It was discovered that Industry 4.0 tools were of good help during the pandemic in allocation, distribution and curation of information and resources. It was also discovered that COVID 19 posed a lot of challenges in administering human resources personnel while companies suffered procurement of effective human resources, low productivity and casualties while the pandemic lasts. The advent of computers and the internet has led to the use of social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, which can be used for work and for communication. The workers who will need these platforms will be those who are already employed, as well as those who need to be employed Hence, requisite skills (which could be both hard and soft) are required to use these platforms effectively. This study is based on the use of secondary data sources such as articles and journals using inductive and semantic approaches and thematic analysis. The study aims to promote the effective utilization of social media for work and communication through the Head, Hand, Heart Approach to Education and Training. The study reveals that the Head and Hand approach, which is cognitive learning and practical doing, provides the workers with the necessary hard skills to use social media. The Heart approach, which is affective learning, relational knowing, and emotional involvement, provides workers with the necessary soft skills to use social media for communication. The study contributes to scholarly discussions on workforce education and training in the digital era, as well as empirically contributes to the effective management of the workforce of the future.Item Gig Regulation: A Future Guide for the Construction Industry(MDPI, Basel, Switzerland, 2025) Amusan, Lekan; Aigbe, Fortune; Aigbavboa, Clinton; Aliu, JohnTechnology has led to the advent of digitally enabled workforces like the gig workforce, but a number of issues confront this workforce. This study aims to identify the various issues facing the gig workforce as well as the regulatory measures and regulatory interactions proposed to guide stakeholders in addressing these challenges. This study is a review, with the methodology primarily based on secondary sources of data collection like journals and articles. This study reveals that the construction industry is not immune to the use of the gig workforce, as it often performs project-based construction work, jobs requiring highly specialized skills and commodity service jobs. This study also reveals that the gig workforce is confronted with primarily gig economy-induced platform-based challenges, such as the new nature of work, i.e., exploitative, precarious, and dangerous labour. Furthermore, this study also reveals that these issues can be addressed primarily through regulatory means and regulatory interactions between proposed regulatory measures and existing labour laws, which could be by Coordination, Competition, etc. This aligns with SDG 8, i.e., Decent Work and Economic Growth, as concerns issues related to their benefits, and SDG 10, i.e., Reduced Inequalities, as concerns issues related to their employment relations. The implication of this study for construction stakeholders relates to the development of new regulations and providing a valuable tool for analysing regulatory landscapes and understanding the dynamics of regulatory change, which contributes to scholarly discussions on fair labour practices and the protection of gig workers and helps inform policymaking that will help attract, motivate, retain, and engage more gig workers in the construction industry, which will foster proper workforce management.Item ADOPTION OF INDUSTRY 4.0 TOOLS IN ACHIEVING CONSTRUCTION 4.0 FOR SUSTAINABLE INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT(AECC Beijing Institute of Aeronautical Materials (BIAM), 2023) Amusan, Lekan; Aigbavboa, Clinton; Emetere, Moses; Oloke, OlayinkaConstruction 4.0 has been enabled through the introduction of Industry 4.0and its tools. The rate of adoption of the Construction 4.0, however, to create a good ecological landscape has been rapid which needs enhancement for achieving sustainable infrastructure. This study therefore aims at presenting an integral approach to creating a pathway-model for technological innovation, industrial and sustainable infrastructural development using Lean thinking, Industry 4.0 technologies and sustainability concepts. The main objective of the study is to study the issues around the adoption of industry 4.0 to achieve Construction 4.0 for achieving sustainable infrastructure. The study articulated the following objective parameters to carry out the survey, such as (i) Industry 4.0 application drivers in the construction industry in achieving sustainable infrastructural development, (ii) prospect of Construction 4.0 in achieving industrial development of Industry 4.0,(iii) factors influencing the adoption of Industry 4.0 for technological development, (iv) future of Construction 4.0 in construction industry in infrastructural development and (v) socioeconomic implications of Industry 4.0 tools adoption.A total of 150 samples was used for the study from a population frame of 250 construction. The sample frame of 250 construction companies that are medium and large scale in the category we used as the sample frame for the study. The following statistical tools of SPSS 25 were used to process the data: Mean index, Kruska-wallis,ANOVA, Pearson ranking, Cronbach Alpha and Chi square. The study recommends the following:However, adoption of the Construction 4.0, there are numerous parameters that influence the adoption of industry 4.0 for technological development,which need to be considered to achieve sustainable infrastructural development. For instance, there is a need for attitudinal change, cultural orientation,economic development, and technological innovation. There is a future for success in the application of Construction 4.0 in creating a robust infrastructural economy which is sustainable.Item Disruptive technological innovations in construction field and fourth industrial revolution intervention in the achievement of the sustainable development goal 9(Taylor & Francis, 2020) Amusan, Lekan; Aigbavboa, Clinton; Babatunde, Ogunbayo; Fagbenle, Olabosipo; Adediran,ChristianaInnovation has been described as a vehicle of development. This research therefore address the question of relevance of fourth industrial revolution in providing backbone for disruption that could make sustainable development goal 9 achievable. The purpose of the study is to marry the intervention of disruptive innovation within the context of fourth industrial revolution and how it could help achieve SDG goal 9. Quantitative approach was used in carrying out the research while random sampling technique was used to pick samples randomly across the study area. Sample frame of 100 was picked while sample size of 50 samples was picked from the population frame. Questionnaire designed in Likert scale 1–5 was used for the study. The following results were presented, the need for disruptive innovation in construction field, state of disruption in construction operation in construction industry, factors affecting technological disruption [td], level of awareness of disruptive technology in the built environment, critical success factor in application of disruptive technologies, major drivers of disruptive innovations in construction industry and their functionalities. The study later proposed route for deployment of disruptive application in sustainable construction and achieving millennium development goal through disruptive innovations. Disruptive innovation is the key to desired technological development.Item Re-strengthening the Adoption of Outsourcing Concept in Construction Firms: Issues and Challenges(IOP Publishing Ltd, 2022) Amusan, Lekan; Aigbavboa, Clinton; Obiakor, Chiwendu; Aigbe, Fortune; Adelakun, AdegbenjoOutsourcing is a concept that has gained ground instead of the dynamic nature of materials and construction resources over time, there is still yearning for resource augmentation, thus the need for this study. The course's primary aim is to study issues and challenges of outsourcing in construction firms with a view to enhancing materials and human resources usage. The survey research method was used in researching. In contrast, the random sampling method was used by the authors in the sample selection. The population sample for the study is infinite since while the Cohran formula was used to generate the sample size of 100. The authors used one hundred (100) samples for the study with questionnaire designed the Likert scale 1-5. The following parameters were censored and profiled. They include: understanding the current state of outsourcing in the construction sector, scope, and coverage of outsourcing, and the relationship between outsourcing strategy and performance helps examine the prospective areas that would warrant outsourcing and the possible outsourcing framework—the tools used in processing the data; relative mean, simple percentage, mean index. Some of the findings of the study include among other things: challenges that firms encounter in outsourcing their activities from the responses that the main challenges that the bank faced in outsourcing its included increase in cost and loss of managerial control over outsourced operations, the effect on the quality of operations of the firms, security and confidentially, and relocation of existing employees. The study recommends effective training of personnel, introduction of incentives and motivation factors in enhancing employees’ performance as a way out of challenges that confronts outsourcing. Also, casual labouring system should be abolished since it is counterproductive in conventional production environment.Item Exploratory Approach to Issues and Strategy Involved in Creating Industrial Revolution Time Environmental Sustainability by Construction Firms on Sites(MDPI, Basel, Switzerland, 2022) Amusan, Lekan; Okalome, Chukwuemeka; Aigbavboa, ClintonResearch outcomes all over the world have indicated that the building production sector of the construction industry relates more to the environment than other sectors of the economy and is directly involved with its sustainable activities in terms of waste generation and balancing the outcome has further been enhanced through industrial revolution time. The main aim of the study, therefore, was to carry out research on issues and challenges that revolve around contractors’ attitudes towards maintaining a controlled environment on construction sites. A mixed research design method that involved the quantitative and qualitative analysis was used for the study, while the samples were picked with a random sampling method. The total sample size of respondents is 100 questionnaires which were randomly selected for questionnaire administration to selected construction firms in Lagos state. The questionnaires were administered to professionals from dif ferent firms in Lagos State, Nigeria. A total of 100 questionnaires were distributed in this review while 92 questionnaires were duly returned by the respondents, which constitute 92% of the total questionnaires distributed. The categorical regression method was used in the analysis. ANOVA, Chi-square, and factor analysis were used for the analysis. The study discovered among other things that the following components of environmental sustainability are important to sustain on sites: environmental impact assessment, antiquities on-site, erodible surface, soil erosion monitoring, environmental ecosystem, and environmental biomass, rock mass found on-site, soil contamination monitoring and ecosystem services valuation, soil salinity monitoring, and water resources conserva tion. The study concludes by recommending that the design of an effective way of disposing of waste on-site and continually improving construction methods and procedures to enhance performance in achieving a sustainable environment are vital to sustaining a viable construction environment among other factors.Item Managing quality control systems in intelligence production and manufacturing in contemporary time(Taylor & Francis, 2021) Amusan, Lekan; Aigbavboa, Clinton; Emetere, MosesIn contemporary time, the production arena has become an interesting scene with introduction of inno vations that is changing the climate of production technology. The innovation comes in the form of smart technique of production for an enhanced productivity. Which is termed intelligence manufacturing or production. Intelligence manufacturing has led to enhance productivity in manufacturing sector in recent time on account of 4th industrial revolution. Intelligent manufacturing (IM) involves the use of sophisticated and advanced analytics, sensor application in robotics and internet based connections to things popularly known as IoT. This study was centered on application of intelligent manufacturing in industrial productivity and cost/time wastage. Purposive sampling method was adopted in this study, ran dom sampling survey methods was used to pick samples for collation of responses from production managers of manufacturing companies at the study area (Lagos state, Nigeria). Population frame of 100 product manufacturing companies was adopted, out of which 73 respondents that constitute produc tion managers and supervisors were selected using random sampling technique. The study censored the The study highlighted emerging areas of application of quality monitoring system in intelligent manufac turing to include advanced analytical tools and censored based applications such as robotics applications used in design and product calibration, virtual and augmented reality application that simulates real situ ation using virtual approach, machine learning, expert systems (AI), block chain technology, drones for real time supervision of production process.Item Construction 4.0 Application: Industry 4.0, Internet of Things and Lean Construction Tools’ Application in Quality Management System of Residential Building Projects(MDPI, Basel, Switzerland., 2022) Amusan, Lekan; Aigbavboa, Clinton; Essien, Stella; Emetere, Moses; Obaju, BiodunThe advent of Construction 4.0 has played a major role in construction industry develop ment through the improvement of quality performance. One of the parameters that have contributed immensely to the management of construction quality in the industrial revolution era is Industry 4.0, the Internet of Things (IoT), and Lean thinking concepts. Lean construction is characterized by a set of clear objectives in project delivery involving the concurrent design of products and processes. The study aims to carry out an exploratory study of the application of Construction 4.0 and Industrial 4.0 in quality management of building works and the development of Lean-based quality management models: The study engaged a survey design approach, and a random sampling technique was used to select the study samples. A structured questionnaire designed on a Likert scale 1–5 was used to collate data on the quality aspect of a construction project, and the data were used in model creation. The parameters that emerged are cast as the quality management model. The resultant factors were categorized into three (3) quality categories, which are the Zero level Defect range, Medium Quality, and High-Level Quality Range. The three (3) quality factors were recommended for adoption for quality management of residential building projects.
