This study provides an empirical perspective regarding the role agriculture plays in reducing poverty in Nigeria. The ARDL technique was employed to analyse the objective of this study. Consequently, the following findings were discovered as follows: in the short run, there is a significant positive relationship between the employment in agriculture and poverty level, inflation rate and poverty level have a negative relationship with each other. Meanwhile, agricultural output reduces the poverty level. The findings that erupted in this work motivated the following recommendations for the Nigerian policymakers in particular and Africa by extension, that whenever these policymakers have the target of achieving the SDGs goal of poverty reduction manipulating agricultural output will induce poverty reduction in the short run. In the same vein, the agricultural sector should be revamped by the Nigerian policymakers to cater to the current needs of the country’s working population.
