Universities and were given a copy of the questionnaire, and 24 copies were
returned and found usable. The data was analyzed using statistical package for
social science (SPSS). The findings revealed that the librarians in the two
Universities are publishing, it was also discovered that there are gains of
publishing which includes, earning promotion, peer recognition, departmental
recognition, adding value to the profession. It was also found out that there are
pains of publishing by academic librarians such as financial pains, too much
demand by daily work in the library, lack of academic freedom, and family
commitments. This study also revealed that the gains of publishing slightly
