Abstract

Description

The architectural design of a home is a creative work of the professional architect. He conceives a design around the personality and needs of his client. His work is therefore expected to meet the aesthetic ideas and functional needs of his client. His work is made easier if there are standards to guide him especially in the use of space. Uptil now, the Nigerian architect has relied on foreign standards evolved for cultural lifestyles that differ from those of Nigerians. It is thus expedient that design guidelines which reflect Nigerian cultural lifestyles are evolved. This report is based on anthropometric survey undertaken by the Nigerian Building and road research Institute, Lagos. It has attempted to evolve spatial guidelines for domestic activities especially those that are peculiar to the Nigerian cultural lifestyle.
