| dc.description.abstract | The need for better security measures in controlling access to vital utilities bring about the high demand for smart home systems. In this project a smart switch and socket system was developed using the ESP8266 microcontroller and the Blynk application as wireless control. The main goal is to design and implement a cost-effective system that ensures dependable remote control and monitoring of electrical devices. The project provides a functional prototype capable of managing device states and enabling power cut-off for safety especially in school environments, to enhance child safety by adding the ESP8266 with relay modules. The Blynk app was used which facilitates effective monitoring and control of various electrical loads. Effective monitoring and control of various loads was facilitated by the Blynk app. The results showed that the microcontroller’s response time in putting on relay 1 and putting off relay 2 respectively were 1.2 and 1.1 seconds.
